| Introduction – the Controls Lesson
This is a question and answer session with you in the driver’s seat – I’ll drive you to a quiet area, check your licence and eyesight, then we swap seats. We’ll also discuss some of the terminology used during your driver training, followed by setting the car up for you as the driver so that you can reach and use all the controls, mirrors and instruments safely. We'll then go through identifying where the main controls are and how to use them. If we have a two-hour lesson booked, you'll get time to get the car moving yourself. Objectives of the very first lesson: · Identify and name the foot controls, and how to use them · Identify and name the hand controls, and how to use them · The ancillary controls The car we use for your lessons and for your test is a Renault Clio III 86 Dynamique 1.5dCi. It’s an eye-catching, bright, modern little beauty - full of what you’d expect from a tuition vehicle.
It is a five door 1.5 litre diesel model with five speed manual gearbox – perfect for all types of driving, but especially-good for learning in.
It has electrically operated front windows and electrically adjustable mirrors. Variable electric power steering, brake assist, air conditioning and height adjustable driver's seat and steering wheel allowing for all pupils to find a comfortable seating position, no matter what size and build you may be.
The vehicle is also fitted with He-man dual controls, all for your comfort, safety and peace of mind. The Renault Clio III also has the highest possible occupant safety rating of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP tests.
All in all, you’ll be very safe, comfortable and relaxed. It’s one of the most eco-friendly cars around, so you’ll be doing your bit for the environment, too – using less fuel and producing less harmful emissions.
You’ll find it as much a pleasure to drive as I do to teach in. |
