Reversing into a parking bay is an extremely useful manouevre. It isn't that difficult, whether you're reversing to your left or right, or whether you are reversing around a car, or around an empty bay.

For any bay parking, you need to steer really quickly, applying full lock to either the left or right.

It takes a little practice, remembering a few reference points....but most importantly,
keeping effective observations, and keeping the car moving very slowly!

Start your manouevre with your car at right-angles to the line of bays you are reversing into, about two metres from the end of the line.

Obviously, any reference points mentioned on this site are only applicable to this car....you'll need to establish your own points of turn for your vehicle.

Reversing left around a small car

You need to start turning left when the corner of the object car is just in the rear passenger window of this car. See photograph attached.

Reversing left around a large car

You need to start turning left when the corner of the object car is just in the rear nearside corner window of this car. See photograph attached.

Reversing left around an empty bay

You need to start turning left when the near line of the object bay is just in the rear nearside passenger window of this car. See photograph attached.

Reversing right, around ANY of the above combinations

You need to start turning right when the near line of the object bay is half-way across the rear offside passenger window of this car. See photograph attached.
