Compare the lane MARKINGS on the empty roundabout, then compare the correct ROUTES the blue, black, orange and green cars take on APPROACH, INSIDE and as they LEAVE the roundabout.Lane discipline is extremely important in all three stages. As always, adopt the MSPSL routine on approach to any roundabout so that you arrive in the right poistion, at the right speed, in the right gear, making early and effective observations. Keep an eye open for Helpers. Could you plan your approach so that you notice the lane markings in good time? You should be able to if you start the MSPSL routine early enough. If you always seem to be in the wrong lane on approach you are either driving too fast or not scanning the road ahead effectively enough. Remember there will almost certainly be a plan of the roundabout in the form of a road sign to help you as well. Blue car (STRAIGHT AHEAD)The blue car approaches in the left lane, keeps to the left lane in the roundabout and leaves in the left lane. The correct signal would be none on approach, signalling left as it passes the first exit, cancelling after it leaves via the second exit. Black car (TURNING RIGHT) The black car has to approach in the right hand lane, keeps to the right hand lane in the roundabout, moving over to the left lane as it exits. The correct signal would be right on approach and in the roundabout, signalling left as it passes the second exit, cancelling after it leaves via the third exit. Orange car (STRAIGHT AHEAD) The orange car has to approach in the right lane to go ahead as the lane markings indicate. It keeps to the right lane inside the roundabout and leaves by the right lane. The correct signal would be none on approach, signalling left as it passes the first exit, cancelling after it leaves via the second exit. Green car (TURNING LEFT) The green car approaches in the left lane, keeps to the left lane and leaves in the left lane. The green car has to leave at the first exit as the lane markings on approach indicate. The correct signal would be left on approach, keeping it on in the roundabout, cancelling after it leaves via the first exit. |
